After 17 seasons, the Catalan player has decided to leave Barça
1. Debut with Barça
Xavi Hernández debuted with Barça's first team in a Spanish Super cup match, on August 18, 1998, in which he was starter and scored a goal. That day, Barça tied the match 1-1 against Mallorca.
2. The goal that saved Van Gaal
If Van Gaal was the coach that brought Xavi to the first team, Xavi was the player who saved him from being dismissed: on December 20, 1998, Xavi scored a goal against Valladolid that meant a victory (0-1) after four months without winning. This goal and victory was fresh air for the Dutch.
3. Liga's champion
Altough bad results in the middle of the season, Barça won La Liga in 1998. This was the first title of Xavi with Barça's jersey.
4. The injury that prevented him to play the Champions League final
In the 2005/06 season, Xavi Hernández suffered the worst injury of his life: during a training session, he broke his knee anterior cruciate ligament. Despite happening on December 2, 2005, he couldn't play any more minute during the season, not even in the Champions League final, won by Barça 2-1 against Arsenal in Paris.
5. Three Champions League: Paris, Rome and London
Although Xavi missed Champions League final in Paris, in which Barça won the title for the second time in their history, he could raise the trophy in two other occasions: Xavi was starter in Rome (Barça won Manchester United 2-0) and captain in London (Barça won Manchester United 3-1). He was key in the two finals that Guardiola's team won.
6. UEFA European Championship and World Cup
Xavi also succeeded in the Spanish National Team. He won UEFA European Championship two times (2008, held in Austria and Switzerland, and 2012, in Poland and Ukraine) and he won the 2010 World Cup in Johannesburg (South-africa).
7. Ballon d'Or finalist
Xavi has been the only Catalan player to be Ballon d'Or finalist. The edition of 2010 was very special, when the podium was exclusively occupied by Barça players trained in the club in the youth teams: Xavi, Iniesta and Messi.
8. Xavi, the player with highest number of official matches with Barça
Xavi Hernández is the footballer with more matches played for Barça. The Catalan is the number 1 in matches played.
9. The player with more titles
He is also the player that has won the highest number of titles in the club. 23 titles in total: 2 FIFA Club World Cups, 3 Champions Leagues, 2 UEFA Supercups, 8 Ligas, 2 Copa del Rey (Spanish Cups) and 6 Spanish Supercups.
10. The farewell day
On 21st of May, 2014, Xavi called a press conference to announce that he would leave FC Barcelona after 17 seasons. The Catalan decided to accept the offer from Qatar. This Saturday against Deportivo, he will receive the tribute of the FC Barcelona stadium.
