Leo Messi's father emphasises on the effort Leo had to make
The day after Leo Messi wins his fifth Golden Ball (he is the first and only one to do so), his father dedicated a few emotional words to him in which he recalls briefly all the difficulties he had to overcome before to become the best player in the world.
In a letter published by the daily Marca (as shown below), Jorge Messi goes back to the moment when he left Argentina with his son, he remembers the thrill they felt upon arrival at Barcelona, he states that Leo Messi is in a "magic place" and ends by saying the whole family is "very proud" of him.
These are Jorge Messi's word (in Spanish, translated below. Click on the picture to enlarge it):
"The day we left Argentina with a luggage full of hopes and dreams but also with a lot of fear, Lionel seemed to enjoy the trip. For sure, in his mind was only the idea of discovering Barcelona, getting there and staying there. But I suppose the idea of triumphing in what he loved the most - football - was being shaped.
Today he is where we never imagined he could get, a magic place he began to go across in the year 2007 and consecutively year in and year out and where "the football world" decided to make five times of him the best player in the world.
From the core of the family we feel very proud of him because he achieved it all thanks to a big effort, letting aside extremely valuable things. Leo's spirit and capacity to come through, as well as his will to get better every day, leads everyone close to him to feel a priceless inspiration."
