The best goals of the midfielder, with two against Madrid as the most highlighted
During 17 seasons, Xavi Hernández provided control in the midfield thanks to his quality of playmaker, assisting all the strikers who have been in FC Barcelona's forward. But the Catalan has also scored great goals. Let's review the best six goals of Barça's number 6:
#6. Valladolid 0 - 1 Barça, 1998/99 (min. 15)
A young Xavi Hernández had debuted with the first team on August 98, in the Spanish Supercup, with Van Gaal on the bench, and scoring. Barça lost that match. Months after, he would score again. His first goal in La Liga, a header after a bad clearance of the goalkeeper, would mean winning Valladolid and letting Van Gaal breathe, as they had not won a game during a month. That season, Barça would end winning La Liga.
#5. Barça 5 - 2 Getafe, 2006/07 (1st goal, min. 18)
The 2007 Copa del Rey semifinals against Getafe will be remembered for the great goal of Messi, escaping from all the defenders on the side. But 10 minutes before, Messi started to warm-up with a similar action and assisting Xavi. The midfielder turned around —one of his particular actions— to distract the opponents and scored.
You can see it in the minute 1:12.
#4. Barça 2 - 0 Granada, 2012/13 (1st goal, min. 86)
Round 5 of the 100-point La Liga by Tito Vilanova. It seemed that Barça would not get three points from the visit of Granada at Camp Nou but finally a powerful shot from the limit of the box by Xavi meant the 1-0. 3 minutes later Borja Gómez did the second on their own goal.
#3. Athletic Club 1 - 4 Barça, 2008/09 (4th goal, min. 64)
Copa del Rey final. Barça would get the second title out of 3 in Guardiola's first year, and they would achieve it thanks to a wide result against Athletic Club Bilbao. The 4th goal was scored by Xavi with an amazing free kick, one of his skills. Don't miss how the stands lived it.
#2. Barça 5 - 0 Madrid, 2010/11 (1st goal, min. 9)
In one of the most remembered nights in Guardiola's era Xavi had to score. It was the first of five and it came in the minute 9. That night, Barça gave Mourinho's Real Madrid a soccer lesson.
#1. Real Madrid 1 - 2 Barça, 2003/04 (2n gol al min. 86)
The best of the best. In Rijkaard's first season on Barça's bench, the Blaugrana team didn't win any title, but they could celebrate a victory against Real Madrid. And it was thanks to a goal by Xavi in the minute 86 that broke the deadlock. Great assist by Ronaldinho, who raised the ball, and one-touch shot by Xavi with his heel. The ball entered the goal with Casillas being unable to do anything. What a golazo!
