Vermaelen played the full 90 minutes
Important victory for Belgium in their second match of the group phase against Ireland. They belgians still have options to reach the round of sixteen after their disappointing start a few days ago against Italy. This time, with two goals from Romelu Lukaku and another one from Axel Witsel, the red devils secured a vital win over Martin O'Neill's men (3-0).
Romelu Lukaku was the man of the match. He scored the opener after a great assist from Kevin De Bruyne. Vermaelen was in the line-up as the left centre-back and played the full 90 minutes, earning a sensational clean sheet.
The Barcelona centre-back is without any doubt a regular in the tournament and an important leader for the national manager Mark Wilmots. Despite not having many chances and his constant injuries in Barcelona, the Belgian proved once again that when he is fit, he performs really good.
