After 7 games in La Liga with Zidane on the bench, Real Madrid have lost all hopes to fight for the title.
Zinedine Zidane hasn't been the revolution Florentino Pérez hoped for to ressucitate Real Madrid after a tough start under Rafa Benítez. In only 7 games, the difference with Barça has gone from 2 points to 9 points and Madrid's press thinks La Liga is lost. With the Frenchman on the bench, the Merengues have shown a positive image at home where they won every game but they have disappointed away. 2 draws in Benito Villamarín (Real Betis) and in Málaga (La Rosaleda) and a tough win on Granada's pitch is the balance of Madrid while Barça which have won 8 games and are on their way to win the title of regularity.
The difference with Barça
Zidane started on Day 19, 2 points away from Barça, which had a game in hand against Sporting Gijón. Throughout the 7 games Zidane has lived as a head coach, the difference has gone from 2 points to 9 points after last game. Luis Enrique's team has been able to win the 8 games played, contrarily to Madrid that did 2 draws at Real Betis and Málaga. Atlético Madrid, leader when Zidane arrived, have also abandoned many points and only scored 14 of the 21 they could have scored with a loss against Barça and two draws against Sevilla y Vilarreal.
With Zidane With Zidane, Real Madrid have got 80% of the possible points in the 7 games he coached (17 out of 21). 4 points went away during the two games away at Benito Villamarín against Real Betis (1-1) and in La Rosaleda against Málaga (1-1).
With Benítez the percentage of points was of 68% (37 out of 54). In Benítez's first 7 games, Madrid had lost the same amount of points (4) because of a 0-0 draw at Sporting's venue and at home against Málaga (0-0)
The improvement is obvious but there are still games to be played against top-flight clubs like Barça, Atlético, Sevilla, Villarreal or Valencia, the 5 games in which Benítez has lost most points and...the job.
In the goal section, the average of Zidane is 2.7 goals for ans 0.85 against. With Benítez, the figures were of 2.6 goals for and 1 goal against. Very similar figures that need to be checked until the end of the season in which Madrid will have to focus on the Champion's League.
