Valencia also classified but they can't face Barcelona
After the second leg of the play-off matches for the Champions League group stage, we know the first probable opponents for FC Barcelona in the group stage of the greatest European competition. They are:
- Maccabi Tel Aviv
- Dinamo Zagreb
- Shakhtar Donetsk
Valencia also classified after beating Monaco 4-3 (3-1 home and 2-1 away), but they can't be in the same group because they both play in the same league.
This Wednesday the rest of the matches will be played, with teams like APOEL Nicosia (FC Barcelona's opponent last year), Bayer Leverkusen or Manchester United.
This Thursday, draw with Barcelona as one of the top-seeded teams
The draw will take place on Thursday at 5:45pm (CEST) in Monaco and there will be a tribute to Barcelona for having achieved the fifth Champions League. The Blaugrana team will be, as usual, top seeded. In fact, they have been there 16 times counting this year. Since the 1990/00 season, when the group stage went on to have 32 teams, FC Barcelona has only missed being top seeded once, in 2003-04.
Also remember that this year the designation system has changed. There will be the eight European teams who have won the league with the highest UEFA coefficient, instead of the eight teams with a higher coefficient. This is why usual teams like Real Madrid or Arsenal won't be there.
