The striker will play all the matches until the end of the season
The absence of Luis Suárez in Barça's XI against Getafe was the big surprise of the match. The Uruguayan is totally fit, but Luis Enrique decided he would rest. The deal between coach and player was determined during Thursday's training and has four key points, according to the newspaper Sport:
1 - Suárez needed to rest
Luis Enrique had physical arguments. With 3,720 minutes, Suárez was the player with more time played this season. In La Liga he had only rested 90 minutes against Levante on September, so since then he had played all the minutes. In the rest of the competitions, he had only missed Copa matches and 1 Champions League game. The numbers of Barça's GPS suggested he had to rest, so the match against Getafe (an easy one) was the right moment.
2 - The fight for becoming La Liga's top scorer
At first, Suárez was a little bit unhappy for the fact of not playing, since he could lose options for the fight of being La Liga's top scorer. With 26 goals, he is the second top scorer in La Liga, just behind Cristiano (27). Luckily, the Portuguese didn't score against Las Palmas this weekend so the distance remains the same. In the fight for the Golden Shoe, Suárez is 3rd, 1 goal away from Cristiano and Higuaín (27.)
3 - Yellow card
Suárez has been shown 4 yellow cards in La Liga, so if he is shown another one, he will miss next match. The next two games are important: Villarreal (away) and Real Madrid (home.) With this panorama, Luis Enrique wanted Suárez not to see yellow card against Getafe so he had to miss match vs Villarreal. Now, this weekend he will have to be aware of not being shown yellow card, because they he would miss El Clásico.
4 - The final commitment
The meeting ended with the agreement that Suárez will play all the matches until the end of the season, according to Sport. This way, he will have chances to become the top scorer in La Liga and play the decisive matches of the Champions League. At this moment, Barça have 11 matches left, but he might play more if he qualifies for Champions Leauge quarterfinals, semifinals and final.
