Martino believes the Blaugrana 10 thinks more about the collective

The story of Tata Martino and Leo Messi started in summer 2013, when the Argentine coach arrived in Barcelona. After a season in Catalonia, Martino signed for the Argentine National Team. Martino was interviewed by the newspaper Diario Popular, where he admitted Messi is now less spectacular and more mature.

Collective play of Messi

"It's good for him to improve in this, because he has always been good in individual terms. He has kept individual quality and he can use it at any time."

"Now he is individually less spectacular, but more participative in his role in the team."

"He is like another player in the team. He understands what the group needs and give them what they ask for."

"He needs to get involved with the functioning of the team. He mustn't solve the problems, but the problems must be solved in terms of group and he must be the key player who creates danger."

Maturation

"It was a matter of him. It has nothing to do with people surrounding him."

"He has matured since the last World Cup."
