The midfielder will have a €200 million clause
Serial ends: Sergio Busquets will stay in FC Barcelona. The club and the player have reached an agreement to extend the contract until 2021 plus two more optional seasons. The player will sign the contract in the coming weeks and, thus, all the rumors that he had about his future vanish as he closed the door to the interest of some clubs that had asked for the midfielder.
Last season, after winning the treble, Josep Maria Bartomeu promised Busquets would have a contractual improvement thanks to his great performance at the club. After months of negotiations and public claims by Busquets, the club accomplished and extended the contract to one of the most important players in the first team.
The agreement is until 30 June 2021 and includes the option to extend it for two more seasons, until the end of the 2022/23 season, according to the games played. His buyout clause is set at EUR 200 million and will receive a substantial salary increase, becoming one of the highest paid players in the squad.
