Next June 6, FC Barcelona and Juventus FC will face for the first time in a final
Next June 6, FC Barcelona and Juventus FC will face for the first time in a final... but it won't be the first time they meet in an European competition.
We find 4 precedents of the 2 teams in different competitions. Two times Barça overcame the qualifying round, two times the Italian team did so.
1970-71 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup
The first time was on the latest edition of Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, the precedent of UEFA Europa League, in the 1970-71 season. The match was in the second round.
Barça had eliminated Katowice Polish in the first round while Juve had clearly beaten Rumelange from Luxembourg.
The confrontation, however, clearly had Italian color. Both in the first leg, played at the Camp Nou, and second leg, the Turin team won by 2 goals to 1 (4 to 2 in the aggregate result).
1985-86 European Cup
In the following decade Catalans and Italians faced again. On this occasion, in the quarterfinals of the European Cup of the 1985-86 season.
Unlike the first time, Barça won this time.
Barça defeated them at the Camp Nou by 1 - 0, a result which (combined with 1-1 in Turin) was worth to qualify for the semifinals.
Barça would be in the final, played in Seville, and would lost against Steaua.
