After Xavi's farewell, the center-back could be one of the new leaders of the team
Gerard Piqué wants it all. He doesn't think UCL is more important than Copa del Rey and he believes that the team can win everything. He also talks about his future as Blaugrana, as without Xavi he could be one of the new leaders. He was interviewed by the newspaper Marca; here you have his best statements:
"For us it's not water under the bridge. Maybe for certain media, but we are very proud of having won it."
Copa and Champions League
"Now it's time for the Copa, which might seem a lesser competition, but we feel it is as important as the Champions League."
"It would be two more titles for the museum. At Barça we only know how to win."
"He understands soccer in a different way. He created a style line."
"His absence will be noticed in the squad. Someone will have to occupy his place. I would like to be captain."
Piqué, in Barcelona forever
"I'll retire at Barça. I don't know when - the older I am, the better. I'm sure about that; I can't see myself wearing any other shirt. If I see that next year I'm not up to scratch, I'll hang my boots up at 29 years of age. I don't associate this sport with anything except Barcelona."
The current FC Barcelona
"You reach a moment in which you think you can win any team."
"We are ready to end a perfect season."
"This Barcelona have more options than Guardiola's. With Pep, we didn't use counterattack. Now we may not have the same possession, but this didn't guarantee a victory."
Defeat against Real Sociedad in La Liga (at Anoeta)
"You could say that we talked, that we vowed to improve, but that wasn't how it was. The team, like all groups, get their confidence from results. From that moment we started to pick up good results and confidence and we understood more what our manager wanted of us."
"There comes a point when you realize that you're storming forward, that you can beat anyone and this is what has ended up winning us the league and putting us in two finals. Now we mustn't stop; we have to win the two matches that are left and make it a perfect season."
Change in the forward
"Luis Enrique wanted to place Messi in the center and Suárez in the right, with the 3 strikers close. But we saw that there weren't spaces and that's why Messi ended in the right."
