"Being in favour of the referendum doesn't have anything to do with being in favour of independence"
Gerard Piqué is the subject of the magazine Papel of Sunday, which will be published with the newspaper El Mundo. The newspaper published on its website the front page and a small extract in which the Barça player talks about the Spanish national team, of Catalonia and of the way he is:
Playing with Spain
"If I play for Spain it's because I really feel like I have to play. First of all, because we have an incredible team and, secondly, because right now I'm Spanish. Therefore, I feel like I have to be here and to help my teammates."
Referendum and independence
"Being in favour of the referendum doesn't have anything to do with being in favour of independence. There are many people who supported the referendum, in Catalunya and in the rest of Spain, and who are against independence. There is no problem about that. The problem is that the information is sold in a way or another depending on which channels give it and many people believe it."
"Is it worth it to provoke that many controversies?"
"I never asked myself if it was worth it or not. I'm very impulsive, someone who is active and who tries to shove the established order. It seems like we all have to behave in the way society dictates us and that we can't get out of this. And I, sometimes, like to get out of it. I do what I feel like doing all the time and I'm happy to behave like this."
