The Catalan centre-back took some time in the Barça bus to answer some fans' questions and introduce his teammates to his fanbase.
Gérard Piqué is (still) a young man living the life, making the most of all the opportunities the digital world has to offer. And this world includes Periscope, an application that enables the users to broadcast live online whatever they want, as well as having a chat feed to react to questions and other curiosities. It is not the first time the Catalan defender has done it, and it could become a regular thing, but it is mostly for him a good way to connect with his fans, without the filter press can represent at times. "Sometimes you answer, they cut your answer, take what they want and put it to sell more", declares the defender, that still respect journalists, who are "good people we have to pay attention to". Therefore, Piqué took ten minutes after the Rayo game, in the club's bus, to answer fans' questions and fool around with his teammates, among which Ter Stegen, Adriano, Munir and Aleix Vidal. Here are some juicy bits of Geri's stream.
After a brief introduction as for why he decided to stream on Periscope, Gérard Piqué presents his "picnic", a box mad of various food to help him on the road back, in which he has a pizza slice, a Coke that he had "trouble to make the team's medics accept", his "famous Nutella sandwiches", some fruits and water. Then Piqué decides to answer to some comments of the chat section, and there goes this unusual Q&A.
"It is a great country, I won the Euro U19 there. It was a great experience, I was 19, people are great."
Playing against 10 men (and then 9)
"Sometimes it happens. When the other team is with less men it's because obviously they did something wrong or a player made a bad foul. You have to play with the same concentration because if not you can concede goals like today. It was a shame."
"I'd like to score more goals. I would have loved to be a striker but with my height it's better to be a defender. Besides, with the three strikers that we have, if I played as a striker I wouldn't play even on Thursdays."
"I love futsal. I love that Barça is at the top, another professional section of the club that is at the top, which makes it definitively different from all the other clubs."
"I think we are one of the favourites. But the level is so high and there are so many teams...It will be very difficult."
"Well... It is...In the end, it's the coach that decides."
Why the number 3?
"I've always had it, since I played as a little boy, in the youth categories at Barça."
The best player in history?
"You already know who it is. I don't need to tell you."
I hope I will be able to do it after each game, provided I get 4G and Internet. It's a pleasure to be here and answer to all your questions."
The man said it himself, this could become a recurrent thing, very entertaining and refreshing, with talented sidekicks like Aleix Vidal, whose intervention was priceless. Meanwhile, Gérard will keep on working with his teammates to beat even more records...
