The LFP (Liga de Fútbol Profesional) is considering proposing a change in the format of Copa del Rey. According to Catalunya Ràdio, the clubs discussed this option at the extraordinary meeting that LFP held in Madrid last week, with the representation of first and second division teams.

The proposed format would be to convert the semi-finals and final to a Final Four, in the style of basketball or handball. This would increase the attractiveness of the competition. The Final Four would be played for a week in the same city, with the semifinals in midweek and final on weekend.

The clubs liked the idea, but the Spanish Federation (RFEF) have never been in favor of renewing the format of the competition to raise interest. The bad relations between the president of LFP (Javier Tebas) and the president of RFEF (Ángel Villar) make it very difficult that this proposal be successful. Although, if Villar ends being UEFA president, things could change.
