Jordi Alba is playing a great third season at Barça. The left-back is one of the irreplaceables for Luis Enrique on his line-up, he is the second most used player by the coach, only beaten in played minutes by Leo Messi. Lu Martín interviewed him in the paper El País, where he reviewed his career and his current moment at Barça as well.
Back at Barça
"Arriving isn't easy for anybody, less in Barça. I had to find a life in Cornellà, I took a look at Valencia and I was one year in Gimnàstic de Tarragona"
Valencia and Emery
"In Valencia I made my debut at Primera Division and I owe him almost everything. He bet for me in a difficult moment. It was a moment when I didn't know what I would do with myself, I just left Barça and Cornellà bet for me"
"Emery sure has been the coach who impressed me the most. He received critics to place me as full-back but he kept on doing it. In Valencia and in Sevilla he did great, he bet for people who work and he doesn't get married with anybody. Thanks to him I'm at Barça and in the national team, I he didn't switched my position, I wouldn't be here today"
Defend or attack?
"Now I like to attack more than before. I learnt it. At the beginning I suffered defending but now I wouldn't change it for anything, I like being full-back"
"You have to be more focussed to defend more than when you attack. It's more compromising, you have to be on everything"
"Without forgeting about my defensive job I am free to attack, with responsability"
"I haven't heard critics about him. This year he has grown, he gives more when defending, he hasn't lost capacity of attacking, yet he has learnt defensive skills"
"It's easy to understand with him, on the field and outside. He's the most complete player I've ever seen. Those who are realistic know that there is nobody like him"
