Plus €800,000 fine
Javier Mascherano has been sentenced by the Court of Barcelona to a year in prison and a fine of €815,000 for two tax offenses relating to the 2011 and 2012 balance sheets.
The lawyer of FC Barcelona has requested the automatic suspension of the penalty of one year in prison substituting it for a new economic fine ranging around €21,000. In this regard, the prosecution has shown favorable to accept this measure and it's expected that in the coming days the judge issues a new verdict.
Meanwhile, Mascherano has spoken about the issue in a statement issued on social networks, unveiling his version. The Argentine said he mistakenly trusted in a company that managed his fiscal matters and does not rule out taking action against them. He also wanted to make clear that "throughout my career, I've been an honest and responsible person, respecting my colleagues, the clubs I represented and the countries where I have lived."
