The Atlético Madrid player compared the hardness of the play in South America, different from what happens in Spain
Diego Godín, captain of the Uruguayan team, knows Messi really well, due to international competitions and also thanks to the Spanish La Liga. That is why, since the performance of Messi is again in debate after Argentina lost the final of Copa America, Atlético Madrid center-back compared the treatment of the players to Messi in South America and in La Liga:
- "In South America, there's a different way of playing. Footballers marksa lot more. Sometimes we joke with colleagues: 'In Spain, before playing games, the players take pictures with Messi.'"
- "Here (in South America) I see that the competition is much stronger. Messi plays really different in Argentina."
- "Here (in Argentina) he is closer to the midfield and has to skip two lines (instead of one) of players, so it is more complicated. There is an accumulation of things that make Messi play different in Barcelona and in Argentina."
- "At Barcelona, Messi remains isolated at the top, allowing him to relax more. When he gets the ball he is closer to the box."
