One of the most important players in the Spanish Liga ACB in the early 80s, Mike Phillips, died aged 59 as a result of a domestic accident.
Phillips, who had a characteristic mustache and notable kneepads was player in the ACB for 11 seasons in Mollet (1979-80), FC Barcelona (1980-82), Santa Coloma (1982-85) Espanyol (1985-87), Valladolid (1987-88), Granollers (1988-89) and Murcia (1989-90). The American player, trained in Kentucky on his early days, is outstanding for his height (2 meter and 8 centimeters) and scored 767 points with Espanyol in the 1985-86 season, and he became the top scorer.
The accidental death of Phillips last Saturday, after falling at his home, is being investigated by the coroner's office of his county. On Monday the autopsy of the body will be made.
