"The club did not know about the existence of those banners", said Espanyol's President
Espanyol condemned what happened last Wednesday in Cornellà-El Prat stadium in the Copa del Rey game between Espanyol and Barça. Through a video communicate, the club's President, Joan Collet, wanted to apologise for the offensive chants and banners against Barça, especially againt Piqué and his better half Shakira, that could be heard from the Curva Jove fans: "Our sincere apologies to whoever felt offended, we regret, and we don't share the words of one part of the stand whether it is the chants or the banners", he said.We did not know about the existence of those banners inside the club
"The club did not know about the existence of those banners", he added. "In a meeting with La Curva fans they informed us of the content of the banners and we felt tricked. The banners were not taken down because the Mossos (Catalan police) could not intervene for security reasons", Joan Collet justified.
"What hurts us the most is the image the club has given those past few days, of itself and of its fans that always were well-behaved and exemplary with a stadium where there have never been any incident or serious problem, and that the people who are not realated to the world of football were afected", the President declared.
Moreover, Collet clearly said thet measures could be taken so it does not happen again. "The club will look into every report of the various comitiees to take the necessary measures and so those acts don't happen again", he explained.
