There weren't any rumours about a possible exit of the Belgian until now.
Thomas Vermaelen does not have all the opportunities he wishes he had at Barça. After recovering from a big injury, Luis Enrique gave him a few opportunities, but it didn't seem like he could consolidate his place in the blaugrana starting eleven.
There haven't been any rumours about a potential change of air for the Belgian defender, but last weekend the daily newspaper 'Metro' informed of a possible interest from Chelsea as for Vermaelen's signing.
Last Sunday Blues' central defender, John Terry, announced he would not renew his contract with Chelsea and would leave the club at the end of the season. Therefore, Roman Abramovich has to look for new centre-backs on the market and according to the English daily, the blaugrana defender is a possibility.
Right now however, Vermaelen is the third centre-back after Mascherano and Piqué. Will that be enough for him or will he look for more game time in another team?
