Just like what happened with Thiago Alcántara, the center-back hasn't played 60% of the minutes and this makes him cheaper
Marc Bartra could follow the same steps of Thiago Alcántara and leave Barça this summer at a very cheap price. Since he hasn't played 60% of the minutes this season, his rescission clause will go from €50 to €10 million this summer and many European teams are moving to get the rights of the center-back, according to the newspaper Sport.
Bartra has only played 34% of the minutes this season
The 24-year-old center-back renewed last March 2014 and the contract said that if he didn't play a minimum of minutes, the clause would dramatically drop. This way, Bartra made sure that if he didn't have minutes in Barça, he could look for another team. The club accepted it despite having received criticism in summer 2013 for having let Thiago leave to Bayern for the same reason. In that case, the Germans paid €25 million —5 more than the clause— but everyone considered that it was a very low price for such a talented young player.
A very complicated situation
This season, Bartra have been the 15th more used player, with a total of 1,781 minutes out of the 5,130 minutes played by Barça in all competitions. This number means Bartra having played 34% of the minutes. Luis Enrique has trusted more in Mathieu (2,666 minutes) when replacing Piqué (3,719 minutes) or Mascherano (3,668 minutes).
With this scenario, many European teams would be glad to welcome such a young and promising center-back for only €10 million. Big clubs are working for it, so this summer the center-back will have a lot of offers. Barça are in a complicated situation, since they cannot guarantee him more minutes and would receive little money for him. The club have had many problems in this position over the last years. Remember that Mathieu (31) cost €20 million and Vermaelen (29) cost €10 million + possible €8,8M depending on results.
