Barcelona couldn't reach agreement with Qatar - negotiations go on

This was to be approved on a members' Assembly this Sunday

One of the main attractions of the members Assembly FC Barcelona had to held this Sunday was the approval of the sponsorship agreement with Qatar Airways. But finally, this issue won't be treated.

As reported by Catalunya Ràdio and confirmed by the club, FC Barcelona were unable to reach a definitive agreement with Qatar. The president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, and vice president of marketing, Manel Arroyo, returned this Thursday from Doha empty handed and therefore, the issue could not be raised on the meeting of board today nor will be discussed at the Assembly on Sunday, where members had to approve the agreement.

Thus, the club is destined to convene a special Assembly once agreement is reached. For calendar items, it is likely to be in early 2016.

Why didn't the agreement prosper?

According to Jordi Borda, in recent days, the club had been saying they had a preliminary agreement of €75 million annually. But when they sat down to negotiate, the agreement had disappeared, probably because it was closed by a vice president who is no longer in the board: Javier Faus. This may have caused the negotiations to be longer than expected.
