Barça want to make the most of Leo Messi who is still the undisputed star of the team at 29-years old. That is why the Blaugranas are preparing the Argentine's renewal, as his current contract expires in June of 2018.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barça and the player's father have got in touch before the end of the past season and decided to keep talking about the extension of the contract after the player's holidays. With the building of the new Camp Nou and Neymar's renewal, the club has used the calculator to see if a renewal like the one of Messi's contract is viable and it seems like all lights are green.

The club's intention is for the player that arrived in 2000 in Barcelona coming from Rosario to end his career as an elite footballer in Barça, which would mean Messi would still be the star of the club when the new Camp Nou is delivered in 2021.
