The negotiations were in a good way but Football Director's dismissal ended in the loss of the signing
It seems Danilo will be Real Madrid player next summer. Some rumours say it could end in a €22 million transfer of the Porto's current defender.
But the story started like this. According to journalist Lluís Miguelsanz (newspaper Sport), former Football Director Andoni Zubizarreta contacted the Brazilian when he was looking for a replacement for Dani Alves. It was the second option after Cuadrado. Finally, the signing was Douglas.
They talked for the second time in December, when Zubizarreta and Elenko —the company which represents the player— started to negotiate for Danilo and for a young Brazilian star, Malcolm. But Bartomeu fired Zubizarreta and the management of this matter ended in stand-by.
With the arrival of the International Football Director, Ariedo Braida, the negotiations started again, but Braida decided to talk with the club. Elenko didn't like that and started negotiating with Real Madrid, which managed to lower the price to €22m.
Danilo, involuntary protagonist of the Champions League
Porto's right-back was the focus of this Tuesday's Champions League match against Basel. He suffered a big hit on his head and had to be sent to hospital. This Wednesday, he received medical discharge.
