According to the journalist Miguel Rico in Mundo Deportivo, next Friday 20 Barça training field num. 1 in Joan Gamper Training Center will be officially named Tito Vilanova, in memoriam of the former coach who died of cancer last April 25, 2014.
FC Barcelona board approved this action in a meeting last September. The idea is that a private event will take place, with Tito's relatives, the board and the players.
Tito Vilanova coached Barça in the 2012-13 season, despite being out of the work for some months due to his disease. He travelled to the USA to have some treatment. At the end of the season, Barça won La Liga achieving 100 points for the first time ever. A record that was also achieved by Mourinho in Real Madrid the previous year. At the end of the season, Vilanova seemed recovered and he was supposed to coach Barça for another year, but in the 2013-14 preseason he had a relapse. The board (with Sandro Rosell as president) decided to place Tata Martino at his place. Despite his convalescence, Vilanova couldn't recover from his illness.
