The centre-back wants to be the new Puyol
'The footballer syndrome.' This is how Gerard Piqué defined his current moment. The centre-back explained in an interview to 'Financial Times' what this syndrome means and which is his personal aim right now.
"Now I expect that my career lasts the long the better, while some years ago I was thinking of stop playing being 30 years old -he's now 28-. This is the change that all players suffer: it's the 'footballer syndrome'."
Objective: be a leader
"I would like to be a leader like Puyol and score more goals, though I am happy with the career I am doing."
"Xavi, Messi, Iniesta are the leaders currently and the most experienced. The next ones are Busquets and me, since we were in the team more years and we start to be important in the team."
The value to be on the squad
"We know what means the Club and the history. It's not the same for somebody that comes from another place. The players of the house have to help the ones that come from other places."
End of his career
"I can't see myself playing in another team other than Barça. Here's is where I am happy and where I play my best."
