Gerard Piqué appeared in a press conference before Spain national team's match on Sunday against Luxembourg. Barça's centre-back repeated his position about the Catalan referendum and also recognized that he has no problems with his teammates in the national team. Yesterday he attended the newspaper AS where he talked about the 'controversy' generated in the last stop for national teams, when Del Bosque didn't call him saying that he had an injury, but instead, Luis Enrique made him play the whole 90 minutes in Villarreal. This is what Gerard Piqué said:
Injury on his hip
"It's true, I had problems on my hip and I let Del Bosque know. I still have pain but the injury improved a lot"
"Luis Enrique knew that but he thought I should play in Villarreal"
"In that moment I was at the doctor's hands, they presctibed me an anti-inflammatory and during the stop for national teams I was infiltrated there"
Spanish national team
"It's been a lot of years since I play for the Spanish national team. I played being well, feeling ill or normal. I sacrificed and I will keep doing so"
Decisions taken by Del Bosque and Luis Enrique
"They both knew how I was and what happened to my hip. Del Bosque thought that I should rest and Luis Enrique made me play. My team needed me and this is what I understood. In other occasions I also played with pain when the national team needed me."
