Thanks to the stop of Barça's goalkeeper in a penalty kick, Barça won La Liga
Just 30 years ago, in the season 1984-85, Barça won the first Liga title in 11 years. Since the 1973-74 season, when Johan Cruyff arrived as a player and pushing the team from the bottom to the leadership of the competition, Barça had not achieved the title.
In summer 1984, the big star of the Blaugrana team, Diego Armando Maradona, left the club to go to Napoli, and the Scottish Steve Archibald took his place as foreign player —only one per team was allowed then. On the bench, Terry Venables took the place of the Argentine coach César Luis Menotti.
The commentator JM Puyal, promoter of Weloba, screamed "Urruti, I love you!!!"
The team started the season in a brilliant way: Win at El Bernabéu in the first match 0-3, with goals by Ángel —own goal—, Archibald and Calderé, and leaders in La Liga. They didn't lose any match until Day 16, against Athletic Club at San Mamés. In fact that season they only lost another game in the whole season: it was against Hercules in the 29th week.
This defeat made impossible for Barça to win La Liga in Alicante. The second opportunity was in the Day 30 (out of 34), when the team had to play in Valladolid. The victory would mean being champions. Any other result would delay the celebration.
Clos scored first in the minute 9, and Mágico González tied in the minute 14. In the second half, Alexanko scored again for Barça. That result, 1-2 would mean Barça winning La Liga, but the referee whistled a penalty —which should have not been whistled— committed by Julio Alberto. Mágico González would kick it. Barça's goalkeeper was Urruti. Mágico kicked to his right and the Basque goalkeeper saved it. The Catalan commentator, Joaquim Maria Puyal —at that time in Radio Barcelona— screamed: "Urruti l'ha atrapat! Urruti, t'estimo!!!" (Urruti, stopped it! Urruti, I love you!!!).
