Luis Enrique dismissed Masip, Montoya and Douglas
We know the 18 players that will fight for a position in the starting lineup this Wednesday night versus Manchester City in the second leg of Champions League round of 16. Not many surprises in the squad list: Busquets is out —as reported by Luis Enrique himself this Tuesday— and three other players will miss it dismissed by the coach.
The great question is to know who will be Piqué's partner in the center-back
As usual, Luis Enrique will count on Ter Stegen and Bravo and Masip will stay home. The starting goalkeeper might be the German, as in all the Champions League matches. In the full-back we find the other dismissed, Montoya and Douglas. The Catalan trained this Tuesday with a protective mask due to a blow he suffered during the match against Eibar and maybe he is out in order not to take risks. As for Douglas, despite having received medical green light last week and being included in the squad list to face Eibar, it seems his appearance in the team will remain the same.
With Alves and Alba as probable starters, the great question is to know who will be Piqué's partner in the center-back. With Busquets out, Mascherano will play as center midfielder, and Bartra and Mathieu are the candidates to go with Piqué. It's probable that the French is the starter. Despite they played together against Eibar, Bartra and Piqué have a similar profile and it seems that Luis Enrique doesn't really like to place them at the same time.
In the midfield, four players ready to fight for two places: Rakitic, Iniesta, Xavi and Rafinha. And in the forward, no discussion: the magic trident will bite to score, without speculations, as said by Luis Enrique.
This is the full squad list:
- Ter Stegen
- Sergi Roberto
- Neymar Jr
