One of the great virtues of Barcelona team that won the treble was the defensive solidity. Luis Enrique's team conceded just 38 goals in 60 matches with an average of 0.63 goals per game. Bravo was the goalkeeper who had the lowest "goals-to-games" ratio in La Liga and Ter Stegen was one of the outstanding players in the Champions League and Copa del Rey won competitions. In addition, the team achieved a clean sheet in 33 of 60 matches (55%).

Last season FC Barcelona achieved a clean sheet in 55% of the matches. This season they currently are at 33%.

This season, things look very different. In the first 15 games, the team had only been able to concede zero goals in three clashes (20%). In the others, a lot of goals: 23 in 15 matches, 1.5 goals per match. Sevilla, Athletic and Celta were able to score four or more times and the team was suffering defensively. Bravo, with physical problems, had lost regularly. Ter Stegen, conceding two goals from the midfield, did not seem the same as last year. The defenses were late in coverage. And the team did not defend or pressed as before.

But this negative dynamic has begun to change in recent games. After the duel at the Camp Nou against Rayo Vallecano, the team is stepping up and they have only conceded one goal in the last 5 games. In addition, three games with clean sheet have been played for the first time (Villanovense, Getafe and BATE). Interestingly, all three goalkeepers have participated in these three match, one each. Apart from the figures, the sensations are also positive and the team has been more secure, without giving opportunities to the area. Getafe didn't have chances and BATE generated very little danger.

This defensive solidity will have three real tests in the next matches. This Sunday against Villarreal, Barcelona will face a stronger opponent, the 5th in La Liga's standings. Afterwards, El Clásico against Real Madrid, with all the offensive potential of the white club. And then Roma will visit the Camp Nou in a decisive game to get a ticket for Champions League round of 16.
