After Robert Fernández announced Alves was leaving, the Brazilian full-back decided to post an open letter on his Instagram account to say goodbye to all the 'culers'. The message is clear: "I'm leaving, but I will come back. I'm another culer." The club has already announced that they would invite him to a farewell tribute with the fans before the start of next season.

Here is the full letter:

"A month from now, it will be eight years since I arrived at FC Barcelona. In July of 2008, I first set foot in this club and occupied the dressing room in which I have lived the most important successes of my professional career. From the first day, from that first training session under Pep Guardiola's orders, until the last one of the past season, I've had the chance to be able to enjoy with passion football. I have dozens, hundreds of images forever in my mind of moments shared with all of you in the Camp Nou, from the grass of big stadiums worldwide, in the streets of Barcelona... so many goal celebrations, so much happiness in the shape of trophies. I'm a privileged person, a hard-working and honest footballer to whom life gave the opportunity to put on the shirt of the best club in the world in a prodigious decade thanks to the quality of its players and coaches. I could mention every single one of the extraordinary teammates with whom I have had the pleasure to beat those challenges and difficulties in the many ways they presented themselves along the years, but I prefer to give them all my thanks, because in Barça's dressing room there is no room for individuals: we win together, we lose together. And we work together. And to those running the ship, the presidents, 'gaffers', technical staff, club's workers... to all of them I give many thanks because I've always been rewarded for my efforts with their trust and support.

With this letter I don't say farewell, I just want to let you know that I took the decision of looking for a new challenge in my career, because steps - like the ones that are glorious and enjoyable - have to been taken wisely, to be enjoyed and to be ended with when the moment is right. And this moment is now for me. I'm leaving, but I will come back, because I am another culé. Thank you for making me feel so loved."

Gràcies per fer-me sentir tan estimat.
