The Blaugrana team have experienced similar situations to this year's in the past
This Saturday, the winner of La Liga 2015/16 will be determined. FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will play their respective last matches at the same time, 5 pm CEST (take a look here to know other times around the world). After Atlético Madrid defeat last weekend, now there're only these two teams fighting for the domestic title. Barça, 88 points; Real Madrid, 87; 3 points at stake. History tells us that every time these two teams have fighted for the championship in the last Day, Barça have won 5 times out of 6:
It was the very first edition of La Liga. The title was determined between the teams that would become the two top ones in the competition. Real Madrid lost the last match against Atletic (2-0) and Barça caught them with a 4-1 victory vs Real Unión Irún (4-1). The Blaugranes only needed one point more and precisely had one pending match, against Arenas de Guecho, which they won 0-2.
FC Barcelona caught Real Madrid when 4 rounds remained to the end. Both teams won all that remaining matches, but FC Barcelona was champion due to goal average (58-56).
The first of the two cases known as Las Ligas de Tenerife. Real Madrid reached last Day leader, with only 1 point margin ahead FC Barcelona. The Whites faced Tenerife in the Canary Islands and started winning 0-2. However, the locals came back and the match ended 3-2. Meanwhile, FC Barcelona won Athletic 2-0 and after knowing Real Madrid had finally lost, they could celebrate La Liga title.
Incredibly, the history repeated one season after. Exactly the same. Real Madrid had to visit Tenerife in the last Liga match, and they only had one-point margin ahead FC Barcelona. But this time, the Whites didn't even control the match: they lost 0-2, while Barcelona's victory (1-0) vs Real Sociedad made Cruyff team Champions for the second season in a row at the last match.
2006-07, the only defeat on the list
After catching Barça at the top of the standings, Real Madrid placed first. Same points but better goal average. In the penultimate round, FC Barcelona was winning La Liga thanks to their momentary win vs Espanyol and Madrid's defeat vs Zaragoza. But in the 89th minute, with only 15 seconds of difference, Tamudo scored the 2-2 for Espanyol, what has been cold El Tamudazo, and Real Madrid also tied the game vs Zaragoza with a goal by Van Nistelrooy. In the last round, Barça could only believe in Madrid's defeat to win La Liga, but the Whites, although starting losing, ended up winning Mallorca 3-1. FC Barcelona uselessly won Nàstic 1-5. Sevilla also had options to win that Liga in case both Barça and Madrid had lost.
The second Liga of the Guardiola era. That time, FC Barcelona was one point ahead Real Madrid, and the Blaugranes didn't fail against Valladolid in the last round. 4-1 victory, while Real Madrid tied their match vs Málaga (1-1).
